Welcome to
Saint Aidan's.

St Aidan’s is an all-age open, friendly and welcoming community of faith, and we invite you to visit us and join our community. Joining the parish of Saint Aidan is an excellent and exciting way of becoming part of the East Auckland community, particularly if you are new in the area.

St Aidan's AGM 2010

Sunday 21 March, 7pm in the Gathering Area

Please mark your diary now for this important event in our Church year. It is a chance for us to review where we have been, and seek God together for the way ahead. The evening will include an initial presentation of our recent Parish Review results, which have just been received by Vestry. Reports from all parish ministries are due by Monday 8 March and all reports, together with our annual accounts, will be available on Sunday 14th March.

There will also be elections for a new People's Warden, Treasurer and new Vestry members. Nomination forms are on the table in the Gathering Area and are due in by Wednesday 17 March. Let us pray together for our gathering and I appreciate your efforts to be there and share in the vision making of the parish. Jo

Lent 2010 at Saint Aidan's

Faith that follows to the Cross

Lenten Lecture Series

Economic Justice into a new decade” Four Wednesdays 7.30-9pm in the Gathering Area. Followed by Refreshment. Entry by Koha

Wed 3 March - Diane Robertson— Auckland City Missioner - Our city and nation—where is the need?

Wed 10 March Barry Coates, CEO of Oxfam - What in the World is going on? A world in need.

Wed 17 March Rod Oram - “A New Decade: what economic lessons have we learned?”

Lent, in most Christian denominations , is the forty-day liturgical season of fasting and prayer before Easter . The forty days represent the time Jesus spent in the desert, where, according to the Bible , he endured temptation by Satan . Different churches will calculate the forty days differently.

The purpose of Lent is the preparation of the believer—through prayer , penitence , almsgiving and self-denial —for the annual commemoration of the Death and Resurrection of Jesus , as celebrated during Holy Week and culminates in Easter , the celebration of the Resurrection of Jesus Christ

Easter falls on the first Sunday following the first ecclesiastical full moon that occurs on or after March 21 (the day of the ecclesiastical vernal equinox).

Our theme this Lent is ‘ Faith that follows to the cross' and the Lenten Lecture series invites our reflection as to how, when we orient ourselves toward the cross, it informs the workings of our lives and our world. On each evening there will be an opportunity for questions after the speaker has spoken. Come prepared to engage! This is also a great opportunity to inivte a friend to join you here at St Aidan's. See you there!

About our Congregation

The parish of Saint Aidan has over 500 families coming from quite a wide area around Auckland (not just Remuera). Our congregation is both culturally and theologically diverse and all ages are well represented. We value tradition but seek to provide relevant worship in a contemporary world. We enjoy variety in music and liturgy in the context of the Anglican experience. When you visit our church, you will find that we offer a friendly and family atmosphere in our congregation and that we offer many activities for;

We are committed to being responsive to the
needs
of our society and our world.

Visiting us for the first time?
You are welcome to visit and join us in worship. We appreciate that it can be a little intimidating for some people walking into a strange church for the first time, and consequently, all visitors are initially welcomed at the foyer entrance. For some, perhaps it's simply been a long time (like 30 years ago when your mum dragged you to Sunday School). A lot has changed since then. Our songs are singable, the sermons are understandable, the people welcoming, and you don't need to come in a suit. (We'd love to see you this Sunday).

Making visitors and new people feel welcome in our midst is a very important part of our Parish ministry. To help with this we have a Welcome to St Aidan's Pack which contains information brochures on whom to contact, service times, and parish activities including activities for children & families, youth and older people. Please take one of these so that you can find out a bit more about us.
